Gekleurde laag - Colouring has started

All parts of big mask now consist of at least three layers of resin with fibre, either the triaxial or the veil variant. I started with the last layer with colours. Copper with black, remember the model I showed on December 1st. It is quite an experiment and educational as well. I learned what patination means. To execute it I needed to drag Big Mask outside.

Work in progress: black needs to be deblackened into umber. The green and blue also require some downsizing, effect wise.

Witte albast - White alabaster

Symmetry is usually appreciated in a face.
Often sculptors state to let the stone determine the outcome.
As in apply the stone's shape in your art. I say it is efficiency.
The outcome here is a pleasantly smiling alabaster.

Gezicht met barsten - Cracked face

This looks like the blue lines were thought through, doesn't it? I was kind of pleased with the end result after this portrait's face had fallen off in the kiln. This black head is a few years old. In those days I mostly skipped the bisque firing with the risk of parts loosening during glazing.
First I tried to think of a way to repair it and camouflaging the cracks. Instead I stressed them.

De eerste laag van Big Mask zit er op - First layer of Big Mask

The first layer of art resin is now finalised.

Small styrofoam balls are everywhere. In the studio, garden, kitchen, staircase. After vacuum cleaning the whole house, thousands of new styrofoam balls appear. This is officially my last sculpture made with styrofoam. It could drive you mad.

De add-ons are made of styrofoam as well. The art raisin was applied with paint brush on triaxial fibre.

The cement pedestal was mixed in a card board box coated with plastic inside. When cement had dried  the pedestal was put upside down on a stool and bucket because of the pin sticking out of it. The underside of the pedestal was first covered with art resin. After that the pedestal was put upright again and the head was added on top of the it, kind of fixated by the pin.
